The process and main equipment used for potato starch manufacturing process
Fresh potato (conveyor)-cleaning and washing(dry sieve, rotary washing machine)-crushing (rasper)-starch slurry separation (centrifugal sieve, fine fiber sieve)-sand removal (desander) -protein separation (hydrocyclone station)-dehydration(vacuum filter)-Drying (flash dryer)
1. Cleaning and washing: The purpose of cleaning and washing is to wash raw potato thorough multiple stage cleaning and washing process so as to fully wash the dirt, soil, sand and other skin sediment in potato starch production plant. Thus it can improve the purity of the raw material, and facilitate the next process in potato starch manufacturing process. And the widely used machine for this section is dry sieve and paddle washing machine. The main features of these potato starch processing machine are low water and power consumption, large capacity and easy handling.
2. Potato grinding: This is the most important procedure in potato starch manufacturing process. For it determines the extraction rate of starch and starch yield. The role of grinding is to destroy the structure of the potato roots, so that tiny starch granules can be disintegrated and separated from the potato roots.
3. Starch and slag separation: The crushed starch slurry need to be screened to separate the starch milk from the fibers. At present, the centrifuge sieve is widely used for separating in potato starch manufacturing process. Centrifuge sieve is used to separate fiber from starch by high speed centrifugal force.
4. Concentration and refining: In potato starch manufacturing process, hydrocyclone station is widely used for isolation of starch from potato. The hydrocyclone station is composed of multistage cyclone in a certain way. According to the processing function of each stage cyclone in the cyclone station, different number of cyclone pipes and a feed pump need to be installed. The whole unit is independent in the process, compact in structure and convenient in installation.
5. Wet starch dehydration: The moisture content of the starch milk coming out from the hydrocyclone station is too large to be directly dried. Therefore, the starch milk should be dehydrated first in potato starch manufacturing process, so that the moisture content of the starch is about 38%-40%. Vacuum filter takes use of negative pressure to complete the dehydration of starch.
6. Drying and packing: The mainly used potato drying machine in potato starch manufacturing process is flash dryer. This machine features with high heat exchange rate. This is a potato starch processing machine for it can dry the starch in just a few seconds.
